A gorgeous real wedding feature... September 25 2016

We're delighted to be sent a few photos from one of our lovely couples - as they tied the knot in absolute style. Currently living in Christchurch, New Zealand, this irish couple headed home for their big day.

Following their romantic church service, they celebrated with friends and family at the
nearby Diamond Coast Hotel, Enniscrone.

Here are a few photos of their wedding including the Rustic Pink Wedding Invitations we created for them.
Ps. Doesn't Rachael look amazing!

Tips for Busy brides September 14 2015

Heading full throttle into wedding planning?
I’ve learned quite a few things while being super busy and planning a wedding at the same time, so here are a few top tips for the Busy Bride:

Get Pinning
Create your perfect virtual wedding on Pinterest. it's a great way to define exactly what you want. You'll find ideas ranging from the beautifully classic to the totally off-the-wall. Plus the site offers a vast array of DIY ideas that help you stay within budget and make your day truly unique.

Let It Go!
If you have a busy schedule, you probably won’t have time to DIY every single detail of your big day. Pick your battles, and the ones that don’t make the cut: get the professionals to look after those tasks.

Ask for help and delegate!
It may be difficult to let go of tasks if you are a perfectionist, but it will really help, giving you time to focus on your more important tasks. Plus friends and family want to be helpful. Assign tasks to people that are willing to help, but assign tasks that are the best match for the person  For example, if your fiancé is a real DIY sort, give him tasks like building directional signs, painting decorations etc, (manly tasks of course!).

Use your time wisely
When it comes to meeting wedding suppliers, only meet up with the ones that you actually feel like you could hire. Do your research, and don’t waste your time with a photographer that is way out of your budget, a caterer that you’re unsure of, etc.

Phone a friend
When you feel you're beginning to get caught up in all the wedding planning, take a moment to step back, breathe and talk to your loved ones. They will help keep you feeling loved and sane in these stressful moments.

Stay Local
From flowers to your hairstylist, keeping your chosen vendors local will reduce the headache associated with coordinating out-of-town services. It’s much easier to have a friend swing by a shop to collect something locally than it is to order a last-minute necessity over the phone and hope it arrives on time.

Online Registry
Online registries are all the rage these days, reflecting the needs of our fast-paced lifestyles. Avoid spending your precious weekends in the aisles of your favourite store and take advantage of an online registry. Whether the registry is with a leading department store or travel agents (for a honeymoon register), they are super easy to create!

Gather your girlfriends September 04 2015

Ladies, make sure all your girlfriends are there on your big day by sending Save-The-Date Cards.....

For your out-of-town guests send Save-The-Date cards four to six months before the wedding so they can plan accordingly, and then send all your invites (locals & out-of-towners) at least eight weeks prior to your wedding date.

Heart Map Print transformed.... into this super cool invitation August 12 2015

I recently wrote a blog post about my first wedding anniversary and the Heart Map Print I secretly created for my husband. It was a fun print featuring detailed maps of our hometowns, our names and the date we met. It was an affordable, meaningful gift, plus it even followed the tradition of giving 'paper' for the first wedding anniversary.

Since then we've received a load of orders from brides for their grooms, from friends for newlyweds and from sweethearts for their sweetheart, and recently I received an email from a lateral thinking bride asking if I could transform this Heart Map Print into a folding wedding invitation.

Why not, absolutely, I replied! Brides, you really do come up with the best ideas!  So together we created a simple, understated folding wedding invitation and matching RSVP card on matt white card. On the inside of the square invitation I included a faded map background with small hearts showing the location of the Ceremony and Reception for the perfect finishing touch!

Take a look for yourself!

Time for a destination wedding! August 07 2015

All aboard for Spain!

Well, perhaps not myself, but Bride & Groom, Jess & Ronan and their lucky guests
will certainly be looking forward to this destination wedding!

I just collected these bespoke 'Boarding Pass' Wedding Invitations from our printer this morning.
DL in size, these wedding invitations are designed to look just like a real Boarding Pass, complete with Boarding Time,
Destination, Barcodes and space to add guest names.

They are a great follow up to the Save The Date 'Luggage Tags'  I created for Jess & Ronan earlier in the year.

Dusky Blue meets Art Deco July 30 2015

It’s not a wedding without something blue, and Dusky Blue is one of my favourite shades!

Not too long ago Dusty Blue took the wedding world by storm with its soft and understated appeal, and teamed with the ultra elegant Art Deco feel - you're sure to impress your guests!

We recently created an Art Deco themed wedding invitation in tones of cream, dusky blue and light olive. It features a vintage patterned background, a shaped border and classic fonts.  Scroll down for a little inspiration.... Say hello to these blue beauties!

Our One Fab Day Winners bespoke design... July 23 2015

As you may have seen on our Facebook page several weeks ago, we received a gorgeous bunch of flowers from one of our lovely couples... Joleyn and Nordine. And now, they have gratefully allowed us to share a few photos of their special bespoke design....

Joleyn & Nordine were the winners of our last One Fab Day competition earlier in the year.
The couple had some great ideas and a sharp eye for design. They wanted to use a colour palette of gorgeous summer Corals, Pinks and Creams and a rustic black chalkboard background - for the ultimate contrast!

This wedding is to be an international affair, with a homegrown Irish bride and the groom hailing from France, this being said, we included both English and French on their stationery to ensure all guests felt included.

To continue their theme, we also created a Ceremony Booklet cover featuring a floral banner on the front and a special cartoon illustration of the Bride & Groom on the back.

What could be better than Butterflies! July 02 2015

Butterflies are a symbol of change, growth and new beginnings, therefore making them a great theme for
any wedding event. Like the idea, but not sure how to incorporate? Here are a few ideas for inspiration!

What could be more beautiful and feminine than a butterfly?
Butterflies are showing up in boho/shabby-chic weddings with lots of pastels, or a brighter, more contemporary wedding with
splashes of high-energy colour.

Their graceful nature and pretty colours make butterflies one of the most special icons to use for a wedding. The handy thing about using butterflies as a wedding decoration is that they are small and pretty. They can be used sparingly for one or two highlight decorations, or as a unifying theme throughout your wedding.

A lovely place to begin is with wedding stationery
as that will  give your guests a taste of things to come!

When it comes to  'On the day' decorations, perhaps create a fun photo backdrop by dotting paper butterflies over a plain wall,
or name your tables after different butterflies, make butterfly shaped chocolate favours  or perhaps display
a butterfly Guestbook poster for guests to sign!

The final wedding touch.... why not decorate the wedding cake with butterflies. A scattering of the graceful winged creatures going up the cake would be a gorgeous and delectable ending to any wedding. The butterfly theme is so elegant and whimsical that it is sure to add a touch of magic to your big day!

Have fun creating your own special theme!

Winery wedding down under June 30 2015

I've just finished designing some beautiful bespoke stationery for a couple getting married in a gorgeous winery in Canterbury, New Zealand... here's a sneak peak at their venue down under!

Nestled in the hills of the French Farm valley, with the abundance of native tress and birds, meanderings streams and beautifully maintained gardens, French Farm offers one of the most unique and perfect locations for any wedding day.

This lovely couple wanted relaxed, french-inspired stationery to set the perfect tone for their informal, magical wedding day so we created a wedding invitation with a  rustic paper-look background,  an ornate frame, fun relaxed fonts and gorgeous roses in peach and cream.

Pretty pinks with a Pop Art twist! March 31 2015

Emma and Eoin's big day is only months away, invitations are out and we are lucky enough
to be able to share a sneak peek of their special bespoke design.

This invitation was certainly a collaborative effort, a true one of a kind!

In our initial meetings, Emma & Eoin showed me a special sketch of their initials
that Eoin's dad created to use on the invitation. It was quirky and fun, a really unique 'monogram'.

When it came to choosing a theme for their invitation, the groom suggested something in a pop art style and the bride chose the colours of pink, peach and white. Then it was our job to bring that all together! We started by redrawing the monogram illustration
to fit the Pop Art theme, then we added a few cartoon speech bubbles, a de-constructed Pop Art background and smaller monogram on the back with their wedding date, the perfect finishing touch.

The pink tones kept the invitation delicate and pretty while the pop art 'comic' style injected a great sense of fun!

Our latest Bespoke design - Pastels & peonies! March 24 2015

Trish and Alan are counting down to their big day and they were kind enough
to let us share a sneak peek of their special bespoke designs.

Trish and Alan wanted elegant, understated stationery to reflect their big day and so chose beautifully soft pastels for their palette.
We worked with them to create this special design featuring abstract peony roses, simple green foliage, sprigs of small blue flowers and a pair of blue Love birds to represent the couple.

For their RSVP card, they wanted something a little different from your standard RSVP card and envelope so we created a double-sided RSVP postcard, complete with printed postal address so guests only had to add a stamp and it's ready to return. A great way to make 'rsvping' even easier for guests.

Trish and Alan were lucky enough to have the facility to print their own Ceremony booklets so we worked with them on the Cover design, and then simply provided the print-ready artwork, for them to print at home!  Today we said goodbye to this lovely bespoke design, as we added the finishing touches to their Seating Chart, so now...they are all ready to go!
Best of luck for the big day!

Our Riding Tandem Invitation - inspired by our own wedding March 11 2015

When designing our wedding invitations, we get inspiration from so many different places!
Our Riding Tandem wedding invitation was inspired by a Ceremony reading from our very own wedding!  Pictured below...

Take a look below at this simple and cute Riding Tandem Wedding Invitation and the humorous reading that inspired it! Perfect for biking mad fiancees or couples who are planning a vintage bike theme for their wedding and want a reading to match!

A MARRIAGE MADE FOR TWO

A successful marriage can learn a lot from bicycle riding. You should promise each other that you will not be fair weather riders, but venture out together in the wind and the rain. Only by braving the storms as a team will you reap the rewards when the sunshine arrives.

Look after each other. A well oiled bike will run smoothly and change gear easily. Marriage is like a tandem…keep pedalling or the one at the front shouts at you! You should promise each other to not only enjoy new adventures and explorations, but appreciate the same old routes you know and love.

Marriage is a promise to each other to endure the climbs so that you may chase the swoops and swerves of perfect single track. The journey may be long and may have hills ahead, but if you climb together with love and passion, you will be able to achieve everything you both desire! Wishing you all the best from the start line of the greatest endurance event of your lives.

Good luck and may each lap be a great adventure.

Tips for getting people to RSVP March 10 2015

You’ve probably heard stories from friends, that getting people to RSVP to your wedding invitations can be a slow, annoying process, but it doesn’t need to be! Here are some top tips:

Be specific...

Let your guests know exactly how to RSVP, spell it out... Please email your RSVP response to 'jackandjill@thisemail.com' and what your RSVP deadline is. If you are collecting RSVPs by post, set the RSVP deadline two weeks before you actually need the responses to arrive.

Always give options...

Now I don't know about you, but my friends like to communicate by a range of methods. Some friends prefer to communicate via text, others prefer email, others who prefer to call. Make it easy for your guests by giving them permission to RSVP in the manner that they prefer: online, email, and text messages are easiest for some, while mailing in an RSVP card might feel more comfortable for an older relative.

Keep organized...

As the RSVPs start to roll in, make sure they are captured in one place so that you know both who has and who has not RSVPed, as well what the responses, dietary requirements are. Perhaps start a guest list and RSVP spreadsheet. When you receive an RSVP, simply add it to the spreadsheet right away so that nothing gets lost or forgotten.

Plus one clever idea for those of you sending paper RSVP cards in your invitations, number each one lightly on the back in pencil and mark down what number card goes with what guest or household on your spreadsheet. You’d be amazed at the number of cards that are returned without a name on them, and this will make things oh-so-much easier to track.

A gentle follow up...

Your guests are interesting, lovely, fun people with busy lives. While the wedding might to be most important thing on your mind, the same mightn't be said for them, and that's ok. So many of your guests will need a gentle reminder that the RSVP deadline is coming up. Email is a great way to reach out to them.

At the end of the day, collecting RSVPs requires a patient and methodical approach. You will get there!

Choosing your wedding theme...a few things we learned along the way! January 26 2015

Why theme your wedding? A theme is a great way to tie together the personal elements of your wedding and create a special mood that illustrates who you are as a couple.

Choosing your wedding theme should be one of your first wedding planning steps. Having been there and done that, here are 5 things we learned when considering a theme for our big day...

First, choose your venue...
Most often, your venue is going to be a reflection of elements you and your man both like. We always had a country house in mind for our reception, and always dreamed of gorgeous expansive lawns and secret gardens. Once you've selected your venue, you'll find your theme will naturally develop!

Take a moment...
It's always wise to sit down early on and write down words and key aspects that define you as a couple. Either your personalities or interests.  When we were thinking of our couple personality, words like 'relaxed', 'fun' and 'having a laugh' came to mind. These sorts of words really helped to define the overall 'feel' we wanted for our day. Our concept for fun was the initial catalyst that created our first ever Design Our Day design -  our Rustic Country stationery Suite.

Pin. Pin. Pin! Oh Pinterest, you're a god-send! Start pinning everything you love from table setting ideas, favours and colour schemes through to makeup tips and accessory ideas. My constant pinning and reading somehow illuminated a 'theme pathway' for me. I noticed I was consistently drawn to rustic trends, peonies, mint green and coral. Pinning makes it really easy to see what you truly love!

Work with the season... Think about the time of year you're getting hitched, the colours of the season, what flowers are available etc and use what's available to your advantage. Our big day was in May, so we opted for an outdoor ceremony under the Apple Blossom trees while they were still in bloom. Using what the season has to offer makes achieving a consistent theme so much easier!

Call on friends and family!
Make the most of the people around you and ask for help when you need it! Assign family members and friends with tasks that suit their skiils and their contributions will make your venue look smashing. Before our wedding we assigned a dozen key people tasks for the morning of the wedding (and we made sure we let them know with plenty of warning) - everything from collecting the cake, hanging bunting and even setting up our centrepieces! It took so much pressure off and made friends and family a real part of the whole proceeding!

Tips for Busy Brides January 21 2015

Inspiring Ideas for Table names January 16 2015

Cities and countries  - perhaps choose places you have travelled to as a couple, lived or visited on holiday.

Street names - where you've lived together or special occasion locations.

Irish Blessings or sayings

Local or important landmarks -  famous places you've visited as a couple or cities you lived!

Names from nature - Birds, Flowers, herbs, or plants, perfect for an outdoor wedding,

Song names, songs that mean something to you both as a couple are best, opt for upbeat positive songs!

Gems and colours - simple, classic options that suit many wedding themes - Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald and so many more!

Favourite books  - Childhood Stories or classic tales. Books that you both loved to read.

Romantic Couples - from movies

Childhood heroes - transformers, carebears, cartoon characters, they'll add a little sweet nostalgia to your day!

Word Play - love quotes, or words of love like Joy, Cherish, Faith, Trust or translate the word 'Love' into different languages

Food - if you are both a couple of foodies, consider Coffee blends or favourite wines.

Rubber stamps - a fab finishing touch! January 14 2015

Rubber stamps are a fun and more importantly affordable way to personalize those items that can be too pricey to print.

Stamps are the perfect finishing touch for the back of your wedding envelopes, favour tags and we just love these quirky reception napkins (stamped with food safe ink of course), a cute way to reflect your style.
There are so many great options out there, what will you choose?

Our tips for successful Seating Plans... January 10 2015

Creating the Seating Plan is something most of us try to put off for as long as possible, as it can be a time-consuming, tricky task! Here are just a few tips to make the whole process run that little bit smoother!

Need a Seating Plan designed to match the rest of your wedding theme? Contact us today by emailing designourday@gmail.com

Don’t overthink it
At most weddings, your guests are sitting at their tables for at max ninety minutes. So, while ideally everyone has someone at their table who they like, and no one is at a table with someone they can’t stand, don’t stress too much —they’ll have hours to hang out with whoever they want. Now, if your wedding consists of a six-course sit down meal that’s going to take three hours, you may want to work a little harder on creating great groups. I do suggest that guests who won’t know anyone else at your wedding are invited to bring a 'plus one', even if you’re not allowing them across the board.

Assigning Seats vs. Assigning Tables
For the majority of weddings, assigning your guests to tables, but not to specific seats at those tables is going to be fine—with the exception of a multi-course, plated meal with multiple selections for each course.. By assigning tables you'll only need a Seating Chart, so the money that you save on Place cards could go towards favours, more flowers, or just back into your pocket! Another plus for assigning Tables rather than Seats, is you'll find that your guests will naturally take seats at their assigned tables where they feel most comfortable.

Where do we sit?
Remember a sweetheart table is not your only option. If your families all get along well (or, well-enough) a table made up of you and your partner and both sets of parents can be great, or a table with your wedding party and their dates works just as well. Its also often a great idea to put the 'head table'  in the middle of the floor plan, instead of on one edge so that you can put the maximum number of other tables close by and avoid anyone feeling like they’re in the 'cheap seats' on the opposite side of the room.

Destination dance floor!
Sit those people next to it who are likely to go shake their booties! As soon as the music turns up, they’ll be the first out of their chairs, encouraging the rest of your guests to follow suit.

Our Most Popular Designs for 2014 December 04 2014

I know we've only just hit December, but we've decided to look back at the year and tally up our most popular designs for 2014. We've narrowed it down to the Top 5 designs and we were impressed to see that one of our newest designs as climbed into this group... Drumroll please....

Rustic Country Suite... The most popular theme for Design Our Day this year. It's a fun, romantic design ideal for a spring or summer country wedding. And with the ability to change the colours to accommodate most wedding colour schemes, it was ultra versatile too.

Celebrate Suite - For couples looking for a fun, informal invitation this one became a favourite. Again we were flexible with colours, tailoring to wedding colour schemes .

Floral Wreath Suite... - With floral wreaths and floral headpieces becoming very popular, this invitation seemed to partner very nicely with this new trend.

Casual Card Suite... Casual and fun with an almost carnival feel. Some couples teamed the invitation with Navy envelopes and others chose White envelopes, enhancing different colours from the design. Smart cookies!

Oh My Deer... A reasonable newcomer - but this vintage,  chalkboard-look invitation has proven to be popular design for couples already. All you need is a white pen for adding in Guest names and you're ready to go.

Chalkboard Wedding Invitations December 04 2014

One of our newer invitations is fast becoming one of our most popular designs!

The Oh My Deer Invitation is part of our Off The Rack Collection, which means that it's ready to personalize and print. The invitation features crisp white text with a vintage feel, fun rustic touches and a dusty chalkboard-look background.

Incorporating chalkboards or chalkboard-like artwork into weddings is as popular as ever. No longer are they just reserved for children's playrooms and corner shop signs, the chalkboard look can instantly add a rustic, playful vibe to any wedding day.
And there are so many ways to use the chalkboard look, there is something for everyone. Here are a few of our favourite ways...

  • Invitations of course!
  • Placemats, Placenames and Seating charts
  • Photobooth backgrounds
  • Directional and welcome signs

The possibilities are endless

A Wedding Invitation that tells their story! December 02 2014

Grainne and Brendan are on the countdown to their big day so we wanted to share a few shots of their special wedding invitations!

For their wedding invitations, Grainne and Brendan wanted something a little less formal and ultra fun…wedding stationery that would tell their love story and set a fun tone for their wedding. Grainne is a totally crafty bride and had so many great ideas and handy sketches of what they wanted.  The end result was gorgeous, unique and super fun!
And with their wedding day fast approaching… we are busy arranging the finishing touches, the current creation is their matching Seating Chart.

Wishing this lovely couple all the best for the big day!

Insanely cool vintage! November 19 2014

Here's a little inspiration from the stars! Check out these celebrity wedding photos...

For Audrey Hepburn’s first marriage she wore a ballerina-style Balmain dress. It’s too pretty.

Elizabeth Taylor’s first marriage to Paris Hilton’s grandfather, hotel magnate Conrad.

Jackie married JFK in an ivory silk taffeta gown made from more than 50 yards of fabric. It took the designer and her team two months to design and construct.

Singer Nat King Cole and musician Maria Ellington married and went on to have five children together (including singer Natalie).

Ava Gardner and Frank Sinatra are pictured here about to cut their cake. Didn't she look really amazing in this halter dress and shawl.

Brigitte Bardot was 18 when she married the French director.

Grace Kelly called on MGM costume designer Helen Rose to create her wedding gown. Consisting of more than 25 yards of silk taffeta and antique rose-point lace, her dress took more than three dozen seamstresses six weeks to construct the garment. Stunning!

Sammy Davis Jr. what a smooth operation, and his first wife May Britt was pretty cool too.

Priscilla and Elvis married when Priscilla was 22. She impressed guests by making her own dress for the ceremony. Talented lady!

John Lennon and Yoko Ono were married in Gibraltar in their iconic style!

Maybe baby! November 18 2014

We had the pleasure of designing something a little different this month - in the form of a Thank You card after the arrival of dear little Ruth.

The card featured an ultra subtle palette of Duck Egg Blue, Grey and Aqua, delicate child-like fonts, a heart shaped photo and even a mini caterpillar! Such a fun design job and to our delight, we received our very own copy of the Thank You card in the post last week!

Know someone who might want something similar for their precious bundle of joy? Feel free to share this post or simply email us at designourday@gmail.com , if we receive interest, we may just add them to our website offering! :)

Styling Tips for Rustic Chic November 17 2014

Simple, sweet and charming - all at the same time! Rustic country style weddings are growing ever more popular so we've put together a few handy styling tips for achieving a gorgeous Rustic wedding day!

So, first things first, find your rustic venue, think barn, country farm or even teepee. Choosing the right venue will instantly set the scene and make achieving the theme in other areas a piece of cake!  For statement decoration, consider collecting up a handful of wooden crates in the lead up to the wedding, fill them with flowers and place in key spots, like entrance ways, reception spaces or use to create a ceremony backdrop feature. Perhaps a fun DIY project for the groom, quirky directional signage is another way add a little personality and fun to the day, plus very handy for any lost guests!

For bouquets, incorporate seasonal wild flowers and foliage in your choice of colours, and finish with hessian and twine on the stems. For your tables and centrepieces, lengths of hessian are perfect for table runners, easy to make and an affordable option!  Place your wild flowers in jam jars or jugs, wooden boxes or even wood slices for a little no-fuss charm! And for a finishing touch to your reception space, add a little ambience with tea light candles in different size jars on each table and scattered throughout the room.

Green with Ivy November 10 2014

We just love Ivy for weddings so we couldn't resist designing a wedding invitation to fit the theme.
This hardy plant adds colour, timeless style and a touch of nature to any wedding day.

In ancient times, brides use to carry ivy at their weddings as a symbol of their never-ending love for their sweetheart! So cute!  These days popular varieties such as English ivy are often incorporated into wedding decor including alter and centrepiece decoration, cake decoration, gorgeous headpieces and even jewellery

If you love Ivy as much as we do, our Ivy Border wedding invitation might be a great choice for you!
